General Information

The Association
Comunicare is a non-profit association dedicated to teaching Spanish as a second language, to fostering a deeper understanding of Central America and to supporting community development and volunteer work.

Founded in 1994 with private founds, Comunicare's objectives are to provide a cultural exchange through language teaching and to share information and accumulated experience with students, communities, and other social groups. The choice of our name is not casual; it reflects the essence of our philosophy: “To send, to share and to exchange ideas with others”. Comunicare is inscribed in Costa Rica’s National Register of Associations, under ID No. 3-002-16460.

The Location

The center is conveniently located in San Pedro Montes de Oca, a ten-minute walk from the University of Costa Rica and seven-minute bus ride to downtown San Jose . The proximity of a University campus to the quiet, residential area, where the Center is located , is a significant advantage for students; universities, cafes, libraries, restaurants and bookstores are close at hand.

Administration and Faculty

Each member of Comunicare's administrative and academic team is chosen based on experience in research and development and/or teaching . We believe that this first hand experience provides good support for the program and acts as a vital guide for our students.

Terms and Conditions

Refund Policy:

The $100 enrollment deposit is non-refundable. However, Comunicare will refund the complete deposit if we are unable to accept the student at the time when he or she wants to attend.

For the students in the Study and Share or Central American Reality programs , the terms and conditions will be analyzed, discussed and approved directly with their people in charge.

Medical Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage is required. You should check Comunicare's Application Form under the Health subtitle, and include US$25 for Accident/Medical insurance coverage for yourself. You may include it with your initial deposit. Other types of insurance providing the same coverage may be valid, but Comunicare reserves the right to accept or reject such alternatives.

Courses and Applications

Courses may be readily extended. The center requires two months notice and advance payment of appropriate additional fees. Comunicare reserves the right to cancel courses on short notice due to insufficient demand. In such cases, students will be allocated to an alternate course of their choice.

The application is easy! Just fill out our online application form and send us the initial deposit and insurance fee to secure your place. Any cancellations must be made before you leave your home country.

Holidays

The center will be closed on national holidays. These are: January 1st, April 11th, Thursday and Friday preceding Easter Sunday, May 1st, July 25th, August 15th, September 15th, and December 25th. No refunds are made for days missed due to this reason. The center will also be closed for two weeks in December (end of year holidays), and refunds will be made for classes missed during this period.

Private Classes

For students who desire one-on-one attention, private classes are also available. Students may decide to attend only private classes or combine them with group classes. Private class scheduling must be coordinated with the center when applying or within a week's notice. Please contact us for details on rates.
