For seven years, Comunicare has been providing the Costa Rican and Central American Reality Program with students from universities from the Un
ited States and Europe, through lectures about the historic, political, social and cultural situation of the Central American region , and particularly of Costa Rica.
The CCARP includes themes about women and the environment. Also, the program includes intensive lessons of Spanish language , while living with Costa Rican families.
The content of the lectures aim to analyze the history of Central America, allowing the student a base from which to understand and examine the present situation. The Spanish classes offer the students the tools with which to communicate. Comunicare strongly believes that education should not be confined in the four classroom walls ; therefore, the fieldtrips, local visits and placement with Costa Rican families are very important in order to offer the students an opportunity to participate directly in and with the Costa Rican society .
Included in the program are two fieldtrips that consist of visiting areas of traditional and non-traditional production of exports , community ru
ral projects, Indigenous reservations , forestall reservations and National Parks. The purpose of these trips is to give the students complementary information to the magisterial expositions previously given by professionals in the study and investigation of local, national, and regional problems.
The CCARP, has been structured for four or six intensive weeks. Although typically conducted on fixed dates in the months of April and May , timetables can be adjusted depending on the needs of other students .
